About the Event
The award-winning sensation, Palimpsest, makes its return but creates new experiences at the Lawrence Arts Center by highlighting its unique collections and the building’s captivating infrastructure. Tristian Griffin’s choreographic vision, Palimpsest III, merges the many talents of Kansas City’s and Lawrence’s artistic community with a multifaceted production featuring dance, spoken word, music, visual painters and sculptures. Each artist will share their testimony of palimpsest.
Meaning “something reused or altered but still bearing visible traces of its earlier form,” palimpsest describes the process of inhumane discrimination, the role of the oppressor, and the cultural costs towards its victims’ identities. Reflecting on African American and Native American histories, the production showcases how palimpsest is evident throughout history and still exists today. Visitors and audience members will navigate the building’s designated spaces to experience Griffin’s visual narratives.
In-Person tickets are $25 for adults and $18 for students. Each of the three performances will be uniquely different, so if you’d like to come back and experience the show for a second or third time, tickets will be discounted to $10 each
